As part of our ongoing relationship with the university, they require us to keep an up-to-date list of members of the university. We used to charge for this and offer accompanying benefits. As a committee, we decided we disliked having to make people pay to use some of our services so we changed the way it worked.
From now on, membership is purely a bureaucratic requirement if you want to vote in meetings or stand for any positions in our committee. You will still be able to come to any of our events and use any service we provide (for example free sexual health advice and provisions). If you want weekly updates of where our events will be, please join the mailing list - note that this is not the same as being a member.
If you wish to become a member of the society then please contact the secretary and we will add your name to the database. This will be wiped at the start of each academic year so you'll need to do this at the start of every year, but we'll remind you then.
Anybody can potentially join the society whether or not you are a member of the university. However, we have certain rules we have to abide by (specifically, we can't have more than 20% of our members not studying at Oxford University). If you are a member of the university, please include your name and college (or department, if you are unaffiliated with any college). If you are not a member of the university, as well as your name please include your current situation (e.g. employed, studying at college/a different university) and we will get back to you as to whether we will be able to include you in the membership. If we are currently at a maximum capacity of individuals outside the university then you will be put on a waiting list.
The membership database is kept securely and subject to the data protection act. The only people who will be able to see it are the secretary and president of the LGBTQ Society and, upon request, the proctors of the university.
